This past May, the PMA Pilates Certification Program achieved accreditation from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). This was very exiting for all of us, and especially for those who have maintained their PMA certification for many years. NCCA accreditation gives the PMA credential a validation that positions it alongside other accredited certifications in the fitness industry.

As many of you know, In 2006, the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) recommended that its member clubs hire trainers holding at least one current certification from a certifying organization that had begun third party accreditation from an independent, experienced, and nationally recognized accrediting body.

That body is the NCCA, and we feel that gyms and fitness centers should apply the same measures to hiring Pilates instructors as they do to personal trainers. We have recently sent an eblast to over 4000 gyms and fitness centers with the news of the NCCA accreditation and a suggestion they apply IHRSA's recommendations when hiring Pilates teachers. We hope this will get the message out, but we know we can't reach everyone.

We ask that all PMA®-CPT's join us in spreading the news. We have provided a link to a document that speaks to the recent accreditation and the importance of recognizing PMA Certified Pilates Teachers, as recommended by IHRSA. Those of you who work within the health club environment will have access to people who need to know this. We suggest you make copies of the document and carry them with you. Give them out and spread the word.
